About the Artist
Sandy Fong Whetstone is a ceramic sculptor, painter, printmaker, collage, fiber, and mixed-media artist. Her work reflects the beauty and humor found in nature and explores our often complicated relationship with it—our desire to shape nature alongside our efforts to preserve it.
For Sandy, art is a way to interact with and process the world around her—a way to start conversations. Her work is often joyful and humorous, while sometimes offering deeper reflections on the human condition.
As Sandy explains:
“My primary goal is simple: I want my art to make me smile. If it makes someone else smile, too, that’s great.”
Sandy offers ceramic and collage workshops through her home studio. Her work can be found locally at the museum stores of the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento and the Pence Gallery in Davis. Her work has also been exhibited in galleries and museums in Northern and Southern California and New Orleans.
