Honorary Members of the FAA

The FAA Board of Directors are delighted to announce that long-time members, Barbara Otey and Joan Sexton, have been awarded Honorary Members of the FAA.

Barbara Otey

When Barbara joined the FAA in 2007, there were only a dozen members. She became an active member and served as President, bringing enthusiasm and structure to the developing organization. Barbara scheduled workshops with high quality instructors to provide educational experiences to local visual artists. She also conducted regular monthly meetings at the Art Center at 48 Natoma which included professional demonstrations by regional artists. Due to her leadership, the organization grew to a membership of more than 100 artists!

Barbara encouraged the FAA to give back to the community, and through proceeds from the workshops, the FAA Board provided donations and scholarships to many community organizations and causes. She organized an arts component to the STARS after school program at Theodore Judah. Supplies for the program are funded from workshop revenues. Barbara encouraged numerous FAA members to volunteer and provide art lessons to this group of at-risk children.

In 2011, Barbara was awarded the Arts Achievement Award by the Folsom Arts and Cultural Commission. Barbara’s hard work and can-do attitude has helped grow the Folsom Arts Association into the vibrant organization it is today.

Joan Sexton

Joan was part of the original FAA Board and served as Treasurer in addition to being a multi-talented artist.

Always available to help when needed, Joan stepped up when a scheduled demo artist didn’t show at a membership meeting and generously spoke about encaustics and answered members’ many questions.

Joan, as well as Barbara, were part of the original Sutter Street Artists group, and Joan was also a long-time member of the Old Town Gallery in Auburn.

Many, many thanks to both Barbara and Joan. The FAA would not be who we are today without them.
