Rhonda Egan – Palette Knife

Folsom Arts Association November 2022 Artist Demonstration

Join us Thursday, November 10, for Rhonda Egan’s artist demonstration. Rhonda will demonstrate how she uses the palette knife. She will demonstrate how she lays in big basic shapes in a landscape, continuing to refine these through to a finished painting.

Rhonda Egan has had a love of drawing since childhood. She remembers the day her uncle showed her how to create dimension. Her formal education began in high school and has continued throughout her adult life. She has studied under several artists, including: Susan Sarback, Ian Roberts, Ray Roberts, Peggi Kroll Roberts, Paul Kratter, Ned Mueller, Kathleen Dunphy, and Tim Horn, to name a few.

Rhonda earned Master Artist Status through Northern California Arts (NCA). She regularly shows work at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center, where she teaches oil painting classes. She also frequently shows at Blue Wing Gallery in Woodland. Her most recent honors include acceptance into several prestigious California Art Club Shows, winning Bold Expressions Past President’s Award through NCA and Best Oil in the 2022 NCA Membership Show. Images of her work appear in Capturing Radiant Light & Color, by Susan Sarback and Finding Your Visual Voice, by Dakota Mitchell.

Over the years, she has dabbled in several mediums, but always comes back to oils, enjoying its buttery consistency. By using a palette knife rather than a brush, she can get smooth, blended colors or rich, thick texture. Best of all, is the easy clean up. No need to use solvents.

Her passion is to paint plein air landscapes. There is nothing like capturing the mood of a day, whether it is cloudy, sunny, windy, or threatening rain. She loves the challenge of developing the contrasting images in the rapidly changing light.
