Barbara Nilsson – Encaustic Monotype
Monotype is a printmaking method where the image is painted on one surface, in reverse, and transferred to paper via an etching press or by hand. In encaustic monotype you are working with hot wax and pigment on a heated anodized aluminum surface and then transferring by hand to paper.
In this demonstration, Barbara Nilsson will show you the process from beginning to completion. The image can be printed in one pass or you can continue to work on and add more. You will hear and see ways to add to the work while still on the hot plate or off. You will hear about the different papers to use and the best temperatures to work.
Monoprinting has a spontaneus quality to it making it a medium that says “Let’s go and have some fun!”
Barbara Nilsson started her artist career as a contemporary printmaker. Her favorite printmaking medium is the monotype. Barbara is also a painter of encaustic, cold wax and oils and acrylics.
