February 2025 – Ceramics Demonstration with Ray Gonzales

Ray Gonzales, Wheel and Hand Built Forms
Ray Gonzales’ dynamic ceramics presentation will include demonstrating throwing on the potters wheel, trimming, carving and paddling. Multiple techniques he employs will be shared. Decorating, glazing, the use of non-glaze surface methods as well as the addition of hand-built elements will be covered.
Throughout there will be time for questions and discussions of the medium and the art world.
Ray Gonzales is an established Ceramic Artist and long-time Professor of Art at Sierra College. Born in Auburn, California; his home and studio are located in Lincoln. He is a member of Axis Gallery in Sacramento and has exhibited widely. He has completed several Art-In-Public Places for the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission as well as corporate commissions.
Community involvement includes being a founding member of several non-profit Arts Organizations as well as a founder of Ocolotecame, an Aztec cultural & danza group. He has curated numerous exhibitions throughout the region. He initiated and chaired “Feats of Clay”, a National and then International Ceramic Annual that ran for 24 years. Previously on the Board of Directors of NCECA, ( the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts) he is now active as a committee member of their Community Engagement Committee. Recent recognitions include honored as an Icon in our region by the Arts Council of Placer County, County Supervisors and the State Legislature.
