Jenn Norpchen – “A little of this, a little of that!” Gourd Art

Folsom Arts Association - February 2023 Art Demonstration
Join us for Jenn Norpchen’s February 9 artist demonstration.

For Jenn, art has always influenced her life. With a degree in Interior Design and a minor in Fine Arts, she used her background in ceramics and sculpture to meld the two mediums.

Jenn’s gourd art consists of a little of this, a little of that…a whimsy. The whimsical characteristic of her gourds fascinates and delights her. She is enchanted by the imperfect nature of gourds and the fact that no two are alike. The gourd is a magical canvas: its shape and patterns guide the artist to what it will become, ‘each piece unique.’

Cultures worldwide have used gourds in all parts of their lives, from the functional to the spiritual and aesthetic. Emerging from beautiful seeds, the gourd dries for several months in the sun.

Jenn’s gourd starts to synthesize what is in her…a daydream during a hike, the energy released after a day at work, a funny cartoon, a good laugh, or a visit to an art museum.

Each piece is unique … a way of going to that other place where the mind escapes, shoulders relax, and breathing comes easy.

Jenn is a recognized Award Winner for the California Gourd Society including, Welburn gourd show. Leiser Farms and Davis Ranch shows. Her work has been published in the Ginger Summit and Jim Weidess instructional books for Gourds. “Making Gourd Doll and Spirit Figures.”

Jenn’s art can be seen at Auburn Old Town Gallery, Auburn, CA. High Hand Gallery Loomis CA, Artery Davis, CA.. New Morning Gallery, Ashville, NC. Schack Art Gallery, Evette WA., Museum of Wildlife Art, Jackson Hole, WY.
