In this 2 day workshop, students will work through a variety of still life subjects of increasing complexity. Drawing, color mixing, palette management, and paint application will be covered. Students will learn practical color mixing strategies as well as how to set up a simple and functional home studio space. Students should leave with an improved understanding of how to improve their overall oil painting workflow.
This class is designed for beginning to intermediate painters. No previous experience with oil painting is necessary and intermediate students will learn to improve their skills.
Please note that Craig will be our featured artist at the August 8, 2024 FAA Membership meeting at 48 Natoma. This will be an excellent opportunity to meet him and get a taste of his teaching style!
About Craig Stephens; CraigStephensArt.com. You can also find him on Facebook and Instagram.
Craig Stephens was born in Sacramento, California in 1963. He grew up in the foothill town of Weimar. He attended American River College and later transferred to UC Davis where he received his B.A. in art studio in 1993. During his undergraduate years he had the privilege of taking classes from Gary Pruner, Roy DeForest, David Hollowell and Wayne Thiebaud.
In 1996 Mr. Stephens began teaching high school art classes at Chana High School in Auburn, California. He has been teaching art both in person and online ever since. Since 2006 he has completed a small painting on a nearly daily basis, which he shares through Instagram feed. He has found that the practice of completing a painting a day suits his disposition and aesthetic.
In 2022 Craig published “The Beginners Guide to Oil Painting” through Page Street Publishing. It is available on Amazon and with most major book sellers.
Mr. Stephens currently resides in Auburn, California with his wonderful wife and amazing children. His works can be found in private and corporate collections throughout North America and Europe.
