About the Demo – Capturing Distance and Glow: Atmospheric Perspective & Light
Creating the illusion of depth and radiant light on a flat canvas comes down to two foundational elements: color temperature and edge control. In this demonstration, Ashleigh will show how subtle shifts that move from warm, sharp foregrounds to cool, soft distances can create believable spatial depth. This live session pulls back the curtain on atmospheric color mixing and edge manipulation so you can paint light and air into your own work.

About Ashleigh Anderson
Ashleigh Anderson is a professional oil painter based in Fair Oaks, California, specializing in traditional realism. Her work primarily focuses on the beauty of the natural world, featuring dynamic landscapes and intricate animal portraits.
Working exclusively in oils, Ashleigh employs a structured layering process: building from a warm value underpainting to rich, thick applications of color. Using a style she calls “expressive realism’,’ Ashleigh focuses on capturing the authentic feeling of a place, while intentionally pushing color and contrast beyond reality to bring out the emotion in her scenes.
As a dedicated fine art instructor, Ashleigh regularly leads intensive landscape courses and specialized weekend workshops at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center. She focuses on equipping her students with strong foundational skills, from mastering edge control to building structural depth, helping aspiring artists confidently translate their personal visions onto canvas.
She is also an active leader in the local art community, serving as a Board Member and Newsletter Editor for Northern California Arts, Inc. (NCA).
Ashleigh works from her home studio in Fair Oaks, where she lives with her husband and five children!
