About the Demo

Our September demonstration will be an “encore performance” by oil painter Michael Fritschi, who will reprise his “Overly Colorful Landscapes” demonstration that was so well-received at his recent demo for El Dorado Hills Arts. From a warm orange-hued underpainting, he will progress through thin cool colors, into thick warm colors, and scratch back into his original underpainting to achieve the vibrant results that typify his artworks. His works are so compelling that even if you’ve previously seen one of his demos, you’ll want to come soak it in again, Thursday, September 10th, 6 pm, at The Gallery at 48 Natoma.

About Michael Fritschi and His Approach to Art

Michael was born and raised in Placerville, California, starting out in a small house behind Main Street. Both of his parents were painters, who always encouraged him in his artistic pursuits.

To keep his paintings loose, “open,” and true to his heart, he strives to finish a painting in one sitting and let it “be” what it “is” – and even when he does allow for more than one sitting, he is careful to only add what he believes adds real value to the piece. He notes, “my mood and creative energies typically change from day to day, therefore I am very careful about any additions I make after the first sitting, so that the piece stays loose and true to the moment it was painted.”

Inspired by the contrast between light and dark – and the colors that exist in these contrasts that one might not normally notice – Michael paints with a very limited warm and cool primary palette. He paints thin to thick and applies paint generously in clean color notes with a brush and knife, using thick warm colors to present light and exploiting shadows as an opportunity to incorporate cool blues and purples.

Michael’s recent accolades include best of show for his work “San Francisco Morning” at the Rancho Cordova Fall City Art Show (Fall of 2024), 2nd place in the 59th Annual Mother Lode Art Exhibition (Fall 2025), and honorable mention in the International Bold Expressions Exhibit (Fall 2025). You can see more of his work at the Placerville Art Gallery on 352 Main Street, Placerville, and at Gallery 10 in Sutter Creek, CA.
