Join us for Mike Bagdonas’ June 8 Artist Demonstration!

Mike Bagdonas will discuss and demonstrate the use of complementary color palettes that enhance an artist’s ability to have color harmony in their paintings.

Mike will demonstrate using one of the three color palettes he will discuss. This will be the orange/blue color palette. He will also provide several paintings that use the three palettes and sample color palettes of the three.

Not mandatory, but if you have a color wheel of your own, please bring it to the demo. You don’t need to buy one if you don’t have one!

Mike Badgonas was born and raised in California, with artistic abilities noted early in his life. He worked in the public sector for over twenty-six years before becoming a full-time artist. Mike studied art at the California Art Institute.

Mike paints oil paintings on location and in his El Dorado Hills, California studio. He finds inspiration from the Sierra Nevada Mountain views and coastal views north of Big Sur and south of Carmel, California. He also paints oil paintings of cowboys, American Indians, and wildlife. His paintings are strongly influenced by several distinguished master artists, including Edgar Payne, Maurice Braun, Frederic Remington, and Charles M. Russell. Colleagues refer to Mike as a draftsman in that his renderings are accurate while his style is impressionistic.

In 2022, Mike won Best Landscape/Seascape in the California Art Clubs’ first Biennale Competition, “Celebrating California,” and the award for Best Oil Plein Air Painting in the June portion of the 12th Edition of the Plein Air Salon by Plein Air Magazine. This painting is currently a semi-finalist for the overall winner of the 12th Annual Edition of this competition.

Mike has also participated in numerous National and International level art competitions and exhibits during the past thirty-plus years and has also won many awards and honors, including several Artist Choice awards and a Region 3 winner in the 2010 National Paint the Parks Competition.  He has also been represented by and in exhibits in many prestigious art galleries and museums throughout the United States in the past thirty years. Mike’s paintings are in several collections in the United States and abroad.
