Linda Heath Clark – “Scratchboard Art”
Our October guest, Linda Heath Clark, is a multi-talented artist. This month, she will be demonstrating her unique process of using acrylic paint and subtractive scratching techniques on clay board to create full color scratchboard art.
Linda uses a variety of scratching tools (X-Acto knives, scalpels, fiberglass brushes, steel wool, tattoo needles, etc.) to achieve textural dimension that gives the viewer a distinctly different experience up close versus from a distance.
About Linda Heath Clark – After obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Art with a minor in Biology, Linda started her career working 16 years as a scientific illustrator. Her work as an illustrator included detailed animal portraits and insect and plant illustrations printed in environmental and agricultural publications, scientific journals, and Smithsonian Magazine.
Linda is a Signature Member of American Women Artists and a Master Scratchboard Artist member with the International Society of Scratchboard Artists. She was one of 30 international artists selected for a billboard in The Billboard Creative’s We the People 2023 Show. Her billboard, “Night Lights,” was on Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood. She was also one of 10 winners in the Artists Magazine 2023 Over 60 Competition; and her artwork, “Pond Lilies,” was featured in their March/April 2023 issue.
Linda’s full color scratchboard art has appeared in the last four annual special editions of Artists Magazine’s The Best of Acrylic, including the most recently published September 2025 edition, in which she won an Honorable Mention.
Linda’s work can be viewed at Placerville Art Gallery.
