Sandy Hilton – Ceramics
Wheel Thrown Pottery
Join us for Sandy Hilton’s demonstration of
Wheel Thrown Pottery on January 11.
Sandy Hilton will demonstrate the messy art of making pottery on the wheel and discuss the full process of completing a ceramic piece. The demo will include showing how to “throw” a piece on the wheel and applying surface decoration. She will also discuss glazing and firing. This demo will be interactive with questions welcomed.
Sandy has been involved in the clay making process for over 50 years, having been inspired as a young girl by a National Geographic film that showed a South American artisan making pottery on a primitive wheel. She took ceramics in high school and went on to pursue a degree in art from Cal State Northridge.
Sandy began teaching pottery in 1978 and has enjoyed sharing the joy of pottery-making with hundreds of students since then. She worked for the City of Burbank teaching pottery classes and helping them design and build an Art Center. She then moved to Northern California, taking a job with the City of Folsom, where she once again had the good fortune to develop the city arts program and manage the design and building of the Art Center and Gallery at 48 Natoma.
Now retired, she enjoys teaching at the Art Center at 48 Natoma, making pottery at her home studio and serving as the Vice President for the Folsom Arts Association. See more of her work at SandyHiltonPottery.com.
You won’t want to miss this demo! We look forward seeing you on Thursday, January 11.
