August 2024 – Craig Stephens

Folsom Arts Association Artist Demonstration

Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 6 p.m.

The Gallery at 48 Natoma in Folsom

Craig Stephens

This will be an excellent opportunity for members to experience Craig’s wonderful ‘loose realism’ painting and teaching styles, ideally as a precursor to his September oil painting workshop.

Craig is known for his intriguing renditions of ordinary objects … perhaps inspiring those of us who can’t decide what to create next to just look around, focus on almost anything, and just go for it!

Craig Stephens - The Beginners Guide Oil Painting

Craig Stephens was born in Sacramento and grew up in the foothill town of Weimar. He attended American River College and later transferred to UC Davis where he received his B.A. in art studio in 1993. During his undergraduate years he had the privilege of taking classes from Gary Pruner, Roy DeForest, David Hollowell and Wayne Thiebaud.

In 1996, Craig began teaching high school art classes at Chana High School in Auburn, California and has been teaching art both in person and online ever since.

In 2022, Craig published “The Beginners Guide to Oil Painting” through Page Street Publishing. It is available on Amazon and with most major booksellers.

Craig’s workshop, “Practical Color Mixing for Oil Painting,” will be offered at Folsom Lake College in September. Click here for more information.

Also, for those of you participating in the Georgia O’Keeffe Art Challenge, don’t forget to bring your artwork to share at our August 8 meeting!
